Jim completed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional Education Program through Emory University and passed the rigorous two-day 10-hour CFP® Certification Examination on his first sitting. He was authorized to use the CFP® mark of distinction after completing the CFP Board of Standard’s specific experience requirements in 2012. He has also passed the Series 65 Uniform Investment Adviser Exam.

In 1981, Jim graduated from Siena College in New York State with a BBA degree in Accounting and received a CPA certificate after working with the accounting firm, KPMG, LLP. He also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration, earned in 1985 from University of New York at Albany.
For many years Jim worked in the information technology arena with financial, human resource and employee benefit systems. His experience includes years at both Bellsouth and Emory University. His strong analytical skills are just as beneficial in financial planning as they were in information systems.
Jim is self-described as frugal and a long time, long term personal investor. He has always enjoyed helping friends and family in financial matters and made the decision to offer his services to the public through Stanhouse Financial Planning and Management, LLC. Via the fee-only business model, Jim feels he is in the best position to help others benefit from his experience.
Jim has lived in Atlanta area for thirty plus years. He resides with his wife and their daughter in the Lilburn - Stone Mountain area of Georgia. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and three dogs, sailing, camping, and hiking. As of July 4th, 2019, Jim has completed, running or walking, his 28th consecutive Peachtree 10K Road Race. He is an active member and treasurer of the Lilburn Business Association. He and his family are active members of the Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta organization.
A long time fan of Clark Howard, Jim has volunteered at Clark Howard's Consumer Action Center by answering consumer questions on personal finance and many other topics.
